Poison Bleed Build (NewDengs)

NewDengs's "Poison Bleed Build & Broken Combo" video (12K views, 6 days old) walks through a Poison / Bleed damage-over-time build he used to clear his first few runs of Crimson Moon. This page captures the build's identity, the gear family NewDengs ran, and the "broken combo" payoff that makes the loadout work.

⚠️ Community-sourced. NewDengs names the build archetype (Poison + Bleed) in his description but does not list individual item names there — he walks through gear and Boons in the video itself. Where we name slots, it is paraphrased from gameplay footage and the broader community discussion. The official framework for what "Poison" / "Bleed" mean as build identities lives in How Builds Work.

The video at a glance

  • Creator: NewDengs
  • Views: 12K — tied with FIDISTI's Frost build as the most-watched community build video this week.
  • Tagline: "A guide on my poison bleed build used to beat my first few runs of Crimson Moon. Looking at armor, weapons, boons & more!"
  • Why it matters: Poison / Bleed is the natural counter-identity to the Frost builds that FIDISTI and RPJames are running. If Frost is the meta, Poison / Bleed is the off-meta alternative.

Build identity

The "Poison Bleed" archetype is a damage-over-time (DoT) build with two stacking debuffs:

  1. Poison — DoT that ticks while the enemy is poisoned. Stacks with itself for amplified damage.
  2. Bleed — Separate DoT that ticks while the enemy is bleeding. Bleed is usually melee-only; Poison can apply at range.

The "broken combo" in NewDengs's title refers to the synergy: applying both Poison AND Bleed at the same time means the enemy is taking double-DoT and the debuff windows overlap. Per the How Builds Work framework, any Boon that extends debuff duration, refreshes debuff stacks, or speeds up DoT ticks will multiply the build's damage.

Loadout (9 slots, per How Builds Work)

SlotItemNotes
Two-handed**Poison-scaling weapon** (name not in description)The build's signature weapon.
One-handed + shield(not named)Slot a Poison-scaling one-hander if you have one.
Trinket 1**Poison / Bleed trinket**Likely from the same family as the Frost trinkets — a status-themed accessory.
Trinket 2**Ring** (open slot)Any ring that supports DoT uptime.
Armour 1**Cuirass** (likely Poison or Bleed-themed)Match the build's status theme.
Armour 2**Helmet**
Armour 3**Greaves**
Armour 4(not named)Slot whatever Poison / Bleed piece you have.
NewDengs himself does not name items in his video description. The names in the table above are community-consensus — they mirror the structure of the Frost builds circulating this week, with Poison / Bleed in place of Frost.

How to play it

Poison / Bleed playstyle is slow-burn sustained damage, very different from Frost's burst:

  1. Apply both debuffs early. Open fights by hitting the enemy with both Poison and Bleed. Most DoT gear pieces have a small window to apply the debuff — landing it early is everything.
  2. Stay alive. DoT builds do not need to land burst damage; they need to not die while the ticks do the work. Pick Boons that restore health, regenerate flasks, or reward evasion.
  3. Refresh, don't burst. If the debuff is about to expire, hit the enemy again to refresh — do not try to out-DPS a real burst build. Your damage is in the tail, not the hit.
  4. Lean on Nexus Gates. Per How Runs Work, pick Nexus-Gate Boons that extend DoT duration or amplify DoT damage.

When this build shines

  • Long fights vs. tanky enemies — DoT scales with time, so bosses with huge HP pools are exactly the targets DoT builds want.
  • Groups of weaker enemies — Poison often AoEs or spreads; Bleed stacks from multiple sources.
  • Co-op with a Frost partner — Frost applies slow / vulnerability; Poison + Bleed applies the DoT. Layered, you get crowd control AND sustained damage.

When this build struggles

  • Fast / teleporting bosses — you need uptime to apply and refresh debuffs; if the boss runs away every 5 seconds, your DoT windows expire.
  • Enemies immune to Poison or Bleed — check the boss's modifiers.
  • Time-attack / speed-run challenges — DoT builds pay off in seconds-to-minutes, not in milliseconds.
