Order of the Crimson Moon

The Order of the Crimson Moon is the faction the player belongs to. Per the official Crimson Moon Steam store page:

"Humanity's last hope is the Order of the Crimson Moon, and its most feared weapon is you."

Who they are

The Order is what remains of organized humanity after Gildenarch fell. They are not a government — they are a militant order dedicated to one purpose: fighting back the demons, undead, vampires, and Hellgrowth abominations that took over Gildenarch.

The Order's headquarters is The Church (formerly called Sanctus Clypeus in earlier dev posts — see note below). This is where the player Nephilim returns between runs.

What they do

Based on official sources:
  • Maintain The Church as a sanctuary from the overrun city

  • Forge Nephilim — the player character is described as "a human-angel hybrid forged to defend the world from Hell," implying the Order is responsible for this process

  • Plan missions via the War Table, a strategic planning interface

  • Send Nephilim on hunts into Gildenarch to clear the demons

  • Naming note

Earlier Steam News posts (before launch) called the home base "Sanctus Clypeus" and the Order the "Knights of the Crimson Moon." The launch-day description (September 1, 2026) refers to it as "The Church" and "Order of the Crimson Moon."

Both names refer to the same in-game entities. The launch description is more recent and is the canonical naming for new content. We use the launch-day names throughout the wiki and cross-reference the earlier "Sanctus Clypeus" / "Knights" terminology for players who encounter it in pre-release materials.

    What's confirmed vs. unconfirmed

    Confirmed:
  • Order of the Crimson Moon exists as the player faction

  • They occupy The Church

  • They forge Nephilim (implied by the Nephilim lore)

  • Unconfirmed (game launched today — will populate as players discover):
  • Specific named NPCs in the Order

  • Order hierarchy (leaders, ranks)

  • Whether all Order members are human or some are also Nephilim

Two named developers appear in the official press for Crimson Moon:

David Lesperance — General Manager and Game Director

Named in the TechPowerUp launch article (September 1, 2026) ↗:

"I've been dreaming of creating Crimson Moon since I was a teenager, and after years of development, I'm thrilled to share our epic power fantasy with players, whether they're an action game expert or joining a friend for their first demon-slaying adventure." — David Lesperance, ProbablyMonsters' General Manager and Game Director

    Alex Noon — Community Manager

Steve Pardo — Music (per Behind the Score dev post)

Per the official Steam dev post [Behind the Score: Creating the Music of Crimson Moon](/updates/07-behind-the-score/), the music is composed by Steve Pardo (Music Manager and Composer) with the Audio Lead team. The score blends orchestra, choir, and metal — matching the gothic high-fantasy + heavy-metal visual pitch.
