Crimson Moon Missions & Wards — Run Structure, Completion Rates, End-Boss Flow
How Missions and Wards work in Crimson Moon: the three Ward groupings, six districts, life pool, Nexus Gates, and end-of-Ward Dead God fights.
Crimson Moon Missions & Wards
A Ward is a section of Gildenarch (one of the six districts) you enter for a run. A Mission is a self-contained sub-area within a Ward. Per the developer's "How Runs Work" post:
"From there, you'll enter one of Gildenarch's Wards. Each Ward is made up of multiple replayable missions featuring enemies, elite encounters, mini-bosses, secrets, valuable loot, and a powerful boss waiting at the end."
The structure
| Layer | What it is | How many |
|---|---|---|
| Ward | A section of Gildenarch (district) | 6 named districts |
| Mission | A sub-area within a Ward | Multiple per Ward |
| Elite encounter | A beefed-up enemy fight | Multiple per Ward |
| Mini-boss / Vessel | A gating elite | At least one per Ward |
| Nexus Gate | A choice point mid-run | Multiple per Ward |
| Dead God | The end-of-Ward boss | One per Ward |
The three Ward groupings
The community-sourced structure ↗ groups the six districts into three Ward groupings:
| Grouping | Districts | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Ward Group 1 *(early game)* | Forsaken Streets, Shoreditch Prison, Elk Grove Academy | Starter / mid |
| Ward Group 2 *(mid game)* | Archspire Cathedral, Ramshorn Keep | Mid / hard |
| Ward Group 3 *(late game)* | The Ashveil | Late / hardest |
Note: Ward Group labels are not in any first-party source — community-organized.
The run loop
Per How Runs Work:
- Prepare — pick gear from your Armory at Sanctus Clypeus
- Enter a Ward — pick from the War Table
- Fight missions — clear trash, elites, find secrets
- Hit Nexus Gates — choose one of three Boons each time
- Reach the end-boss (Dead God) or run out of life pool
- Return — purify gear at Gajov, level up, pick the next Ward
Life pool
A Ward run has a life pool (not single-life). Once the pool empties, the run ends and you return to Sanctus Clypeus — but gear that was gated or carried to the end comes home and can be purified.
Per How Builds Work and Poison Bleed build notes, the life pool system is one of the most-mentioned mechanics in launch-week community discussion because it diverges from typical soulslike single-life design.
Nexus Gates
Nexus Gates are the mid-run choice points where you pick one of three Boons. They appear at fixed points within a Ward and let you stack your build identity (status effect family, resource generation, survivability).
Per the Boon Advisor tool, choosing consistently at Nexus Gates is what turns a base weapon + Boons into a build by run's end.
Completion rates
crimsonmoonguide.online lists per-district completion rates based on Steam achievement unlock data:
- Forsaken Streets: High completion (starter content)
- Shoreditch Prison, Elk Grove Academy: Mid completion
- Archspire Cathedral: Mid completion (Tyrigon gate)
- Ramshorn Keep: Lower completion (host-crash bug pre-1.0.1)
- The Ashveil: Lowest completion (late-game)
These rates are community-sourced from Steam achievement data; treat them as directional, not authoritative.
